The Grange has ten acres of land including a fully working walled vegetable garden with original Victorian glasshouse. We grow, organically, a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, from the exotic to the ordinary. In 2007 we harvested grapes, cucumbers, aubergines, medlars and figs as well as more traditional crops like potatoes, onions, leeks, apples and plums. There is also a labyrinth cut into the turf, based on the one at Chartres cathedral. We felt it was important to keep the path as grass so that you can feel the grass beneath your feet as you walk.
Although on the outskirts of a market town there is plenty of wildlife at the Grange - in particular many species of bird. Depending on the time of year (or day), you can see nuthatches, goldcrests, jays, buzzards, tawny owls, barn owls, little owls and treecreepers as well as more common birds like robins, finches, tits, blackbirds, starlings and crows. We also have many summer visitors like flycatchers (spotted and pied), cuckoos, swallows and swifts.
