Thursday 8th - Sunday 11th June (3 days) - Letterpress for All

This is a three-day course for anyone interested in the traditional methods of letterpress printing. The course will provide an introduction to the history of printing and will cover basic typography, design and letterpress techniques, different papers and inks. You will be taught to lay out type and blocks and print using our restored and refurbished presses. The course is suitable for both beginners and those who already have a basic understanding of letterpress and would like to further their skills.

Friday 20th - Sunday 22nd October (2 days) - Greetings Cards

This is a two-day course for anyone interested in producing letterpress greetings cards. The course provides all the basic information you will need to print beautiful one and two colour cards. We show you the best machines, papers and inks to use, as well as how to get the best from your press, whether a small Adana or something bigger.

Due to time constraints on press we cannot run hundreds of copies of different cards, so the course will focus on the printing of
some of our set designs from blocks and type which anyone can use. This course is suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience of letterpress printing.

The tuition is held in our press and composition rooms, which house our working presses - an 1864 Albion, a Vandercook proofing press, a Stephenson Blake proofing press, four treadle platens of different sizes (Arab, Clyde, Cropper and Eagle) and five Adanas (also of different sizes). We have a composition room with a range of type including a good selection of wooden type. Also on site is a fully equipped bindery.
